What is REET?
REET stands for Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teacher, an exclusive state-level competitive exam conducted in Rajasthan. This test is conducted to certify candidates as eligible teachers to be employed in Rajasthan and is curated by the Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan (BSER). This test is sometimes also known as RTET, which stands for Rajasthan Teacher Eligibility Test.

Essentially, the REET is conducted to recruit teachers for schools in Rajasthan. The recruitment is done for teachers of two levels of classes:
- Level I or Primary
- Level II or Upper Primary.
Hence, those applicants who clear REET successfully, at Level I and Level II, will be eligible to teach students of classes 1-5 and classes 6-8, respectively, in Rajasthan’s educational institutions.

Eligibility Criteria for REET
Below are the details of requirements for candidates to qualify to take this competitive exam.
Age
The BSER does not have any maximum age limit for aspirants wanting to appear for the REET. However, the minimum age required to appear or apply for the test is 18 years.
A candidate above the age of 18 can apply for the REET exam if they fulfill the individual educational qualification criteria set by the BSER for candidates appearing for the Level I and Level II exams.
Educational Qualifications
Primary Teacher
To apply for the REET exam, a candidate must fulfill any of the following conditions:
- Senior Secondary certificate with at least 50% marks along with studying for or passed in the final semester of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
- Appearing for the final year of a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).
- Appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
- Graduation along with appearing in the final year or completing a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
Upper Primary Teacher
- Graduation with at least 50% pass percentage and completed or appearing for a 1-year B.Ed. in Special Education.
- Graduation and completed or appearing for the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
- Graduation with a minimum of 50% marks and completed or appearing in a 1-year Bachelor in Education, i.e., B.Ed.
- Graduation with a minimum of 45% pass marks or appearing for a 1-year Bachelor in Education in accordance with the NCTE regulations.
- Senior Secondary or any other equivalent education with a minimum of 50% pass percentage and completed or appearing for the final year of a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education, like B.El.Ed, B.A, B.Sc.Ed, B.A.Ed, or B.Sc.Ed.
REET Exam Pattern
If you aspire to take the REET exam, it is important to understand the details of the exam clearly, which will help you prepare and score well. The REET exam is conducted separately for Level I and Level II aspirants. While most of the regulations are the same for both tests, there are slight changes in the pattern that must be noted.
Few Important Points to Note
- The exam is conducted for a duration of 150 minutes.
- There are a total of 150 questions with a maximum score of 150 marks.
- Each correct answer carries one mark.
- There is no negative marking.
- All the questions are set in the form of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) only.

The REET Paper-II or the Upper Primary Level qualification test consists of four subjects, namely,

Mathematics | Community of mathematics, average, diagnostic and remedial teaching, error analysis and related concepts of learning and teaching, evaluation methods, fractions, geometry, mensuration, Indian currency, LCM and HCF, mathematical operations, profit-loss, and simple interest. |
Science | Animal reproduction, adolescence, chemical substances, force and motion, heat, human body, light and sound, living beings, microorganisms, natural science, science and technology, solar system, and structure of matter. |
Social Science | Geography and resources of India/Rajasthan government: composite and functions, history and culture of India/Rajasthan, Indian civilization, culture and society, Indian constitution, democracy, components, Earth, Mauryan and Gupta empires and post-Gupta period, medieval and Modern period, resources and development. |
