NIIT stands for The National Institute for Information Technology. It is an Indian multinational skills-and-talent development corporation with its headquarters in Gurgaon, India. The company was set up in 1981 for helping the newly formed IT industry in India overcome its human resource problems. NIIT gives training and development to enterprises, institutions, and individuals.
It was established in 1981 by Vijay K. Thadani and Rajendra S. Pawar who were graduates from IIT Delhi, with a sum total of ten lakh rupees. The institute was conceived as a franchising model in IT education, setting up 9 centers by the year 1987.
n 1992, National Institute of Information Technology launched its flagship program GNIIT, a 12-month Professional Practice for students who were seeking careers in the IT as well as non-IT sectors. By 2004, The institutes had sectioned off its software business and formed an independent organization called NIIT Technologies Ltd.
NIIT has two main lines of business across the globe – Corporate Learning Group and Skills & Careers Business.
The Corporate Learning Group (CLG) of NIIT offers Managed Training Services companies in Asia, Oceania, Europe, and North America. The Skills & Careers Business (SNC) is responsible for delivering a diverse range of learning and talent development programs to millions of individual as well as corporate learners in areas such as Finance & Insurance, Retail Sales Enablement, Digital Transformation, Banking, Digital Media Marketing, and new-age IT.
