HEI stands for Higher Educational Institutions. HEIs are not limited to just universities and colleges but also professional schools that offer preparation in fields such as law, medicine, business, music, art, and even theology. Higher education institutions also include training schools, institutes of technology, and junior colleges. The basic entrance requirement for almost all educational institutions is just the completion of secondary education, and the entrance age is almost always 18 years.
The term HEI is also commonly used in Europe for the designation of organizations offering higher, post-secondary, tertiary, and even third-level education if required. Higher education in India starts after the higher secondary level or to make things simple – 12th standard. PG courses are generally two years in duration. However, there are some courses such as Master of Computer Application (MCA) that are three years in duration. People who cannot afford to attend classes for preoccupations can pursue correspondence courses from distance learning institutes and Open Universities in India.
