The Central Seat Allocation Board, commonly known as CSAB, was formerly called the Central Counselling Board or CCB for short. It was constituted by the Ministry of Education of the Government of India for coordinated admissions to several UG degree programs of engineering, technology, and architecture in IIEST, IIITs, IITs, NITs, and CFTIs (called the NIT+ system) on the basis of their Joint Entrance Examination – Main (JEE- Main) rank. In 2015-16, the CSAB of the NIT+ system and Joint Admission Board (JAB) of IITs entered into a Memorandum of Understanding for facilitating the joint seat allocation and counseling through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority or JoSAA for short.
JoSAA will jointly admit candidates for the first year of Engineering & Technology and Architecture & Planning Programs of IITs and NIT+ system for the academic session 2022-23 through an online portal. There will be six rounds of JoSAA counseling on completion of which, if any seats remain vacant in the NIT+ system (notwithstanding seats of IITs), two special rounds, known as the CSAB Special Rounds will be conducted by the CSAB through its own online portal. In addition, CSAB will also conduct a separate CSAB-Supernumerary round via its online portal for admission to supernumerary seats for the Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and Lakshadweep in selected NITs. Furthermore, the CSAB-NEUT rounds will be conducted by CSAB to allocate seats under Reservation of seats in Degree Level Technical Courses for States and Union Territories lacking such facilities in the AICTE-approved institutions to candidates of the North-Eastern states as well as the UTs.
