There are different types of dissertations. This depends upon the type, of education course, you are doing.

Broadly, there are two dissertations. One is an empirical dissertation, and the other is a non-empirical dissertation.

Empirical refers to the collection of data, for example, the data required in psychological degree. The empirical one usually in life science subjects may or may not be fully centered on laboratory work.

Non-empirical dissertations can be collected from the existing data or making arguments in others’ work. This involves a lot of reading from books and other resources available. In the non-empirical one, you don’t have to just explain what others have researched. Still, you also have to carefully analyze their work and look for practical applications as well.
