Master’s Degree Courses in Education-
Master of Arts in Education (MAEDU)-
It is a master’s degree course in education with a minimum course duration of two years and a maximum of five years. The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline and there is no age limit to apply.
Master of Arts in Adult Education (MAAE)-
Just like MAEDU, the course duration of MA in Adult Education is between a minimum of two years and a maximum of five. Even though the minimum qualification is just a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university, IGNOU doesn’t enroll more than 100 students per study center in this course, in an academic session. If the number of applicants is greater than 100, then a merit-based selection of top 100 students is made based on bachelor’s degree marks. Furthermore, applicants with a background in education are given preference.
Post-Graduation and Advanced Diploma-
PG Diploma in Pre-Primary Education (PGDPPED)-
This course prepares candidates to become equipped to teach at the pre-primary level. The minimum duration of the course is one year and the maximum is four years and the eligibility qualification is a Bachelors or higher degree in any discipline.
PG Diploma in Adult Education (PGDAE)-
The course focuses on the professional development of candidates and grooms them to be successful in the area of adult education. The minimum duration of the course is one year and the maximum is four years and bachelors from any stream can enroll for the course.
Post-Graduation and Advance Certificate-
PG Certificate in Adult Education (PGCE)-
This is a certification course that allows both pre-service and in-service teachers to enroll, provided the eligibility criteria are met. The minimum eligibility qualification is a bachelor’s degree in any stream from a recognized University/Institution. The course duration is a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 2 years.
Bachelor’s Degree Courses-
Bachelor of Education (B.Ed Colleges)-
This is a bachelor’s degree course in Education. The minimum duration of the course is two years and the maximum duration is five years. The total course fee is Rs. 55,000/-. To be eligible for admission in the B.Ed. course, a candidate should meet the following criteria-
i) Candidate must have at least 50% marks in Bachelor’s Degree and/or in Master’s Degree in Social Sciences/Science/Commerce/Humanity, B.Tech. or B.E. with a specialization in Science and Mathematics with fifty-five percent or equivalent,
and
ii) Candidates from the categories mentioned below are eligible to apply in B.Ed. (ODL)
(a) Teachers in elementary education who are trained and in-service.
(b) Applicants who have undergone a NCTE recognized teacher education program via face-to-face mode.
Diploma Courses-
Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.)-
This is a diploma course which provides training to untrained teachers. The candidates have passed 10+2 from a recognized board with a minimum of 50% marks and should be a teacher at primary and elementary level in recognized schools. A minimum teaching experience of two years is mandatory in order to be eligible for applying in the program. The course has a minimum duration of two years and a maximum of four years. Although IGNOU has decided to keep the program on hold from July 2019 onwards due to some reasons, it is a highly popular education program which may once again be made available by the University in future.
