SAT stands for Scholastic Aptitude Test. The SATs are conducted for high school students to check their readiness for college. The exam tests students in mathematics, reading, and writing sections. The subjects in SAT are reading comprehension, writing, and mathematics.

Earlier, the exam used to have an essay section which has now been removed. The exam used to be of two types earlier, which were General Test and Subject Test. Subject Test has now been discontinued by the SAT Board.
This exam is taken by students who wish to get admitted into universities and colleges abroad. The exam consists of 154 questions and the duration of the exam is three hours. The medium of the exam is English only. The score ranges from 400 to 1600.

The exam fee is dollar 104 which is approximately INR 7000. A student can appear for the exam after the 12th. If you are applying to universities outside of India, you have to appear for this exam. The exam results are accepted in universities in the UK, the USA, Canada, and Australia.
The exam scores are valid for five years. There are a number of Indian universities as well that accept the test scores.
