An Overview of the SLET Exam
The State Level Eligibility Test acts as a platform to screen candidates for the roles of Assistant Professors and Research Fellows in colleges, educational institutes or universities on a range of subjects. E.g., Social Science and Humanities. Upon clearing the test successfully, you can apply for the said positions in any college or university in your state. The examination is conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the administration of the National Testing Agency (NTA). The exam, now known as SET (State Eligibility Test), is held once a year.

Syllabus for SLET
Though different states across India conduct the test, the syllabus for SLET more or less remains the same. The major change here is the addition/removal of subjects and the difference in regional languages. In other words, the subjects of SLET conducted in Assam may differ from the one held in Maharashtra. However, all states must remain compliant with the pre-set guidelines of the UGC in terms of the syllabus.

The SLET syllabus consists of three papers. Paper-I is common for all, while Paper II and Paper III are based on subjects chosen.
Paper-I

It is important to note that some states, such as Assam, have only Paper I and Paper II as their syllabus for SLET, whereas states like MP have all three papers in their tests. Hence, the pattern of the exam may also differ.
SLET Exam Pattern
Paper I of the SLET has 60 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), out of which candidates have to answer 50 questions only. Each question here has a weightage of 2 marks.
On the other hand, Paper-II consists of 50 compulsory questions with 2 marks per question. For Paper III, there are 75 compulsory questions for you to answer, each of which contains a 2-mark weightage.

Eligibility Criteria for SLET
You can appear for SLET if you:
- Are an Indian national.
- Have a Master’s Degree with a minimum score of 55% – for general category candidates.
- Have obtained at least 50% in the subject you wish to sit for, in the case of SC/ST candidates.
The good thing is, there is no age limit to appear for SLET. Also, there are no limitations on the number of attempts for the examination.
