UPSC Syllabus – The UPSC Civil Services Exam (CSE) is divided into three stages. The stages are as follows: Preliminary (objective) exam, Main (written) exam, and Interview (personality test). Civil Services Prelims – The preliminary exam consists of two required 200-point papers (General Studies Paper-I and General Studies Paper-II). The questions are education objective multiple-choice questions. Mains — There are nine papers in the written test, however only seven are counted in the final merit ranking. Interview – The candidate will be interviewed by a Board that will have a record of his or her career in front of them.

He or she will be quizzed on topics of general interest. The Preliminary Exam marks are not factored into the final ranking. The Preliminary Exam is a screening test that is used to select candidates for the Main Exam time management. The final rank of a candidate in the Civil Service Exam is determined solely by the marks obtained in the Main Exam and Interview. The main exam is for 1750 points, while the interview is worth 275. The total marks are based on the year 2025. In UPSC, the General Studies Paper I consists of sections namely – Current events of international and national importance, History of India and Indian National Movement, Indian and World Geography, Indian Polity and Governance, Economic and Social Development, General Issues on Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity and Climate Change and General Science. The General Studies – Paper-II consists of Comprehension, Interpersonal skills including communication skills, logical reasoning, analytical ability, Decision making and problem-solving, General Mental Ability, Basic Numeracy, and Data Interpretation.
