Exercise 6 Hydraulic Coefficent, Weir And Notches
Q.1 The head of water over an orifice of diameter 40 mm is 10 m. Find the actual discharge and actual velocity of the jet at vena-contracta. Take Cd= 0.6 and Cv = 0.98.
Q.2 The head of water over the centre of an orifice of diameter 20 mm is 1m. The actual discharge through the orifice is 0.85 litres/sec. Find the co-efficient of discharge.
Q.3 A jet of water, issuing from a sharp-edged vertical orifice under a constant head of 10 cm, at a certain point, has the horizontal and vertical co-ordinates measured from the vena-contracta as 20cm and 15cm respectively. find the value of Cv, also find the value of Cc if Cd=0.6.
Q.4 The head of water over an orifice of diameter100mm. The water coming out from orifice is collected in a circular tank of diameter 1.5 m. The rise of water level in this tank is 1.0 m in 25 seconds. Also the coordinates of a point on the jet, measured from vena-contracta are 4.3 m Horizontal and 0.5 m vertical. Find the coefficients Cd, Cv and Cc.
Q.5 Find the discharge through a rectangular orifice 2.0 m wide and 1.5 m deep fited into a water tank. The water level in the tank is 3.0m above the top edge of the orifice. Take Cd = 0.62.
Q.6 Find the discharge of water flowing over a rectangular notch of 2 m length when the constant head over the notch is 300 mm. Take Cd= 0.60
Q.7 Determine the height of a rectangular weir of length 6 m to be built across a rectangular channel. The maximum depth of water on the upstream side of the weir is 1.8m and discharge is 2000 litres/sec. Take Cd = 0.6 and neglected end contractions.
Q.8 Water flows over a rectangular weir 1m wide a depth of 150 mm and after warts passes through a triangular right-angled weir. Taking Cd for the rectangular and triangular weir as 0.62 and 0.59 respectively, find the depth over the triangular weir.
Q.9 A rectangular channel 2,0 m wide has a discharge of 250 litres per second, which is ensured by a right-angled V-notch weir. Find the position of the apex of the notch from the bed of the channel if the maximum depth a water not exceeded 1.3m. Take Cd = 0.62.
Q.10 Water is flowing in a rectangular channel of 1m wide and 0.75 m deep Find the discharge over a rectangular weir of crest length 60cm if the head of water over the crest of weir is 20 cm and water from channel flows over the weir. Take Cd = 0.62. Neglect end contractions. Take velocity of approach into consideration.
