So a large magnet is used in, them to produce large sound., , Reason for using a small magnet, in headphones, Headphone is used by a single person at a time., So it needs to produce low sound. Hence a small, magnet is used in it., , Why do magnets differ in shape?, Magnets differ in shape according to their use in various instruments. For example, magnets in a mini, motor are arc shaped, in speakers are ring shaped and in a compass is a needle type., , Experiment note-1, Aim, To find out is the attractive power same on all sides of the magnets?, , Materials, Iron dust, bar magnet, U magnet, thin plastic paper, a chart paper of A4 size., Procedure, Cover the bar magnet using lastic paper. Sprinkle iron dust loosely on the chart paper. Suspend the, , bar magnet using a thread and bring it near the iron dust. Perform this activity with U magnet also., Observation, More iron powder stick to the end of both magnets., Inference, The ends magnets have more atractive power., To see an experiment on this topic, click on the following link, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueB_C61U8Ls&list=PL9AshZEiXvDmmMEbh5H6x-iLGinZkfnVr&index=11, , ]mT`mK§fpsS IqSp-X ]n.-Un.-F-^v. ^b-ep-Ifpw hoUn-tbm-Ifpw e`n-¡m³ TECH Malappuram imkv{Xm-[ym]I Iq«mbva hnI-kn-¸n¨ imkv{X-s¨¸v B¸,vt¹tÌmdn \n¶pw Uu¬temUv sNbvXv C³ÌmÄ sN¿pI., https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.basith.sasthracheppuapp.

Bring the, pole of the other magnet to the middle of this magnet. What do you observe?, , Is it to the middle part of the first magnet that the second magnet is attracted?, No, it is attracted to the side part., , Place the magnets closer to each other. 5, TECH Malappuram (Teacher Empowerment through Co-operation and mutual Help), , Attracting and repelling poles, Poles of the same type in magnets are the like poles and those of the opposite poles are the unlike, poles. Like poles of magnets repel each other whereas unlike poles attract each other., , How can we magnetize a needle?, Place A needle on a surface. Using one pole of a strong magnet, rub the needle from one end to the, other. Repeat the process by lifting the magnet and bringing it to the original position. Rub the, needle 15 – 20 times. Take care to rub using one pole alone and in the same direction only. Thus we, can magnetize the needle., To see experiments on this topic, see the following links, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4h3NJHABTY&list=PL9AshZEiXvDmmMEbh5H6x-iLGinZkfnVr&index=2, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRIcBjJC33E&list=PL9AshZEiXvDm40gC2enil5_psRPxLZ5Fm&index=6, , How will you find out whether this needle has acquired magnetism or not?, , We can know whether this needle has acquired magnetism or not by bringing it to, some magnetic substances or suspending it freely in the air., Can this magnetized needle be used in determining the poles of magnets of different shapes ?, Yes. For that, find out it’s poles first by suspending it in the air. Then bring it’s poles of other magnets, near it. Thus we can understand their poles by observing the attraction and repulsion., How can we find out the range of attraction of a magnet?, Take a magnet, needle, scale, stand, string, iron dust and card board. Suspend, the needle using the thread in such a way that it is balanced. Place the scale on, the table in such a way that one end of it is below the needle. Move the magnet, on the scale from the other end to the side of the needle. Stop moving the, magnet when the attractive force is felt on the needle. Measure the distance to the needle. This is, the range of attraction of that magnet., Place an A4 size chart paper on the table as shown in the figure. Sprinkle some iron, dust over it loosely. Bring the magnet below the paper. Gently tap the paper. Measure, the extent of the magnetic field by observing the movement of the iron dust., , ]mT`mK§fpsS IqSp-X ]n.-Un.-F-^v. ^b-ep-Ifpw hoUn-tbm-Ifpw e`n-¡m³ TECH Malappuram imkv{Xm-[ym]I Iq«mbva hnI-kn-¸n¨ imkv{X-s¨¸v B¸,vt¹tÌmdn \n¶pw Uu¬temUv sNbvXv C³ÌmÄ sN¿pI., https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.basith.sasthracheppuapp.
